Cities for citizens

Invitation to a study trip to Slovakia to encourage project partnerships with Slovak organisations on the theme of improving the quality of urban life through innovative models.

The Ekopolis Foundation in cooperation with the Norwegian Helsinki Committee are inviting Norwegian NGOs to a study trip to Slovakia in the period 10 – 14 October 2016. The aim is to explore cooperation possibilities with Slovak organisations in the frame of the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021 programming period. The visit will be focused on the theme of improving the quality of urban life through innovative models encouraging the citizens to take part in public life, decision making and in influencing local policy developments.

Representatives of Norwegian NGOs with relevant expertise especially in the following topics are invited:

  • decision and policy-making at local level;
  • climate change adaptation and mitigation in urban environment;
  • sustainable energy management;
  • improved mobility and non-motorised transportation in cities;
  • solutions for Smart Cities, including ICT for provision of services to citizens and public involvement;
  • job creation and social enterprises, preferably with focus on green jobs;
  • other innovative models encouraging citizens to take part in public life.

During the study trip you will have opportunity to visit relevant Slovak NGOs and other stakeholders in the country. Meetings in Bratislava, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Košice and other municipalities will be organized to promote cooperation supporting the sharing of knowledge and experiences of mutual benefit for both Norwegian and Slovak NGOs.

Organisation of the visit and relevant costs (travel, accommodation, per diems) are fully covered by the organiser, the Ekopolis Foundation. Remuneration is not included.

Please register your intent to participate in the study trip as soon as possible, by filling out this simple registration form. Due to upcoming holiday periods in both Norway and Slovakia, we would appreciate early registration as this will allow us to organize all the relevant meetings.

Estimated number of participants in the study trip is 5 to 6 representatives of Norwegian NGOs.
